Grants to APAF Fellows Foster Research on Pandemic’s Effects on Psychiatry
Seven APAF Fellows have received small mentored grants from the APA Foundation (APAF) to study the effect of COVID-19 on patients with mental and/or substance use disorders, the psychiatric workforce, and psychiatric practice.
APA Foundation provided small grants up to $15,000.00 to seven APAF Fellows with an interest in research to design and conduct a research study related to the impact of COVID-19 on a) patients with mental and substance use disorders, b) the psychiatric workforce (including early career psychiatrists), and/or c) the practice of psychiatry. The fellow's research activities are being carried out under the supervision and guidance of a mentor at his/her primary institution and in collaboration with a mentor in the APA Division of Research. This initiative will enables the APA and APA Foundation to actively participate in: 1) enhancing the field's understanding of the impact of COVID-19 in diverse populations; and 2) diversifying, sustaining and strengthening the clinical investigators workforce in psychiatry.
