About the Program

First developed by the American Psychiatric Association Foundation in 2006, the Typical or Troubled?® School Mental Health Education Program has equipped thousands of school personnel to recognize the warning signs of mental health distress and respond. Read testimonials from past participants »

Notice. Talk. Act.® at School was developed with teachers, school administrative staff, curriculum experts, and leading mental health experts including psychiatrists, drawing from evidence-based practices and a decade of experience supporting schools.

Flexible for Your Schedule

We know professional development time at your institution is limited. We built the program to fit into your monthly 90-minute professional development slot and can be flexible to your schools individual needs.

Train Your Whole Team

Notice. Talk. Act.® at School is appropriate for your whole team – including teachers, coaches, administrators and other support staff.

Direct Delivery or Train the Trainer Approaches

The classroom portion of the program can be brought to your local school community in two different ways:

  1. APA Foundation Staff or APA Foundation Certified Trainer Works Directly with your school.
  2. APA Foundation Staff or APA Foundation Certified Trainer trains school mental health/counseling professionals in your school district, and the trained professionals deliver the training to their own school, "Train the Trainer."
